About the BDTA

The Building Digital Twin Association (BDTA) was founded in 2020 in Flanders (BE), by several members of the EU-Project Sphere, a Horizon 2020 Project.

It’s an international non-profit organization that promotes the development of open ecosystems for digital twins in construction and built environments.

The BDTA collaborates with technology leaders, research institutes, universities and corporate companies to advance the digitalization of the sector.

The mission

The mission is promoting sustainability, efficiency and resilience through innovative technologies while advancing the research and standardization of tools and methodologies for integrating digital twins into building projects.

The target

The target is the AECOO (Architecture, Engineering, Construction, Owner, and Operator) sector, which involves a wide array of stakeholders working on the adoption and implementation of Digital Twins (DTs) for built environments.

The Ontologies project

The Ontologies Catalogue initiative aims to create a central hub for ontologies within the Building Digital Twin domain. This hub will enable ontology developers, academia, industry, software developers, providers, and users to share, explore, access, re-use and enhance ontologies.

Following the project roadmap the BDTA began as an initiator in 2024, providing an ontologies catalogue that lists the different ontologies available within the industry, and will evolve into a facilitator by hosting ontologies in 2026. Meanwhile our goal is to ad toolkits and guidelines to the BDTA Ontologies Catalogue and align values and principles for ontology networks.
